Grief Support Ministry

The Grief Support Ministry at St. Michael is based on the Companionship model of grief program initiated by Dr. Alan Wolfelt. It offers support and companionship to the person during the time of loss. In addition, there is a GriefShare program for individuals who wish to share in a support group.

Companionship model: The grief support volunteer meets with the griever at his/her request only. The volunteer companion listens; the griever sets the pace. The grief journey includes prayer time together. If desired-please contact the parish office-403-249-0423.

GriefShare Fall 2017

The GriefShare program has three key elements: The video seminar provides helpful information on grief-related topics. Group discussion follows the video seminar and is facilitated by group leaders. Personal workbook daily exercises in a question and answer format helps personal reflection and the grief healing process. Additional GriefShare resources are available during the group meeting sessions.

The group will meet for 8 consecutive Mondays beginning September 11, 2017 at 7pm here St. Michael's, with each session being approximately 2 hours to include a short break. This Christian based program starts with a 40 minute video giving insights from Christian experts and personal stories of people grieving a death followed by group discussion. The leaders of GriefShare at St. Michael are experienced facilitators who are also spiritual directors and have experiences in grief groups.

We would like to offer this program two times a year with the first scheduled for February of this year, and the second one will be in the fall. There is no cost in attending. We offer the workbook to attendee (free will giving).
